How to Set Up and Update Eilik
Eilik can begin working as a standalone companion shortly after unboxing, but charging it fully and installing the latest firmware can provide a more reliable first experience. This guide explains the complete setup process, what equipment you need and how to avoid common update problems.
Before You Start
Prepare the following:
- Your Eilik robot
- A compatible USB-C charging and data cable
- A stable USB power source for charging
- A Windows or macOS computer for firmware updates
- A stable internet connection for downloading update files
- A clear, flat desk with enough room for Eilik to move safely
A cable that only supports charging may not work for a firmware update. Use a known data-capable USB-C cable, and do not disconnect Eilik while update files are being transferred.
Step 1: Check the Package
Inspect the robot and included accessories before powering it on. Look for shipping damage, loose components, a damaged display or a bent USB-C port.
The exact contents can vary by model or bundle. Review the listing for your Eilik companion robot before assuming that food toys, stickers or other accessories are included.
Step 2: Charge Eilik
- Place Eilik on a stable surface.
- Connect the USB-C cable to the robot.
- Connect the other end to a compatible 5V power source.
- Allow the robot to charge before extended first use.
- Inspect the cable and connector if charging does not begin normally.
Manufacturer specifications list approximately one hour for charging and about 1.5 hours of operation, although real results can vary.
Step 3: Power On and Test the Basic Functions
Turn the robot on and allow its startup sequence to finish. Before updating, check whether the display, speaker and movement appear normal.
Complete a simple pre-update check:
- Gently touch the head, belly and back
- Listen for normal sound output
- Watch whether the arms and body move smoothly
- Lift the robot carefully and observe its response
- Confirm that the screen is clear and free of visual distortion
Step 4: Download the Current Eilik Software
Download the current Eilik update software from Energize Lab’s official downloads or support page. Do not rely on an old installer copied from an unknown file-sharing site.
System availability and software versions can change. Confirm that the current installer supports your version of Windows or macOS before beginning.
Step 5: Connect Eilik to the Computer
- Open the installed Eilik software.
- Connect Eilik to the computer using a data-capable USB-C cable.
- Wait for the software to detect the robot.
- Follow the update prompt displayed in the software.
- Keep the computer powered and the cable connected throughout the process.
- Wait until the software confirms that the update is complete.
Updating can take longer than a typical small-device firmware update because animation and resource files may also be transferred. Do not assume that slow progress means the process has failed.
Step 6: Restart and Complete a Post-Update Test
After the update is complete, disconnect the cable only when instructed. Restart the robot and repeat the screen, sound, movement and touch checks.
Also confirm:
- The robot starts without a black or distorted screen
- Touch areas still trigger reactions
- Movement does not appear stuck or unusually noisy
- Settings and games open normally
- Any newly listed firmware content is available
Setting Up Two Eilik Robots
Two compatible Eilik robots can provide additional social behaviors when placed together. Both robots should be updated and charged separately. One Eilik does not charge another.
For the easiest experience, use the same firmware version on both units before testing multi-robot interactions.

Common Update Problems
The computer does not detect Eilik
Try a different USB port and a confirmed data cable. Restart the software and robot before reconnecting.
The update appears stuck
Allow sufficient time before interrupting it. If the software offers server selection or a retry option, follow the current official instructions.
The display looks incorrect after updating
Restart the robot and repeat the firmware update. Persistent black, blurred or distorted display behavior may require official technical support.
The installer is blocked by computer security
Confirm that the installer came from the official Energize Lab download page. Review the operating system warning carefully instead of disabling security software without understanding the risk.
